"Let's begin fighting for Virginia instead of fighting over Virginia."
What I'm About...
I am a wife, mother, Realtor, and award-winning journalist with a background in print journalism, specifically military and local news coverage including reporting on government bodies. I’ve pored over school and city budgets. I’ve followed capital improvement projects from concept to completion. I have fully immersed myself in all of the things that make a community work and gained a broad knowledge base regarding the workings of government. When elected as your delegate, I will use the seat to keep citizens informed and engaged. I will vote in the interests of my constituents. I would likely never have the need to abstain or state a conflict. That fact makes me a powerful voice for citizens.
I have been married for almost 20 years to a U.S. Navy veteran and son of a Navy Commander who grew up in Virginia Beach and moved our family here as soon as the opportunity presented itself – Our son, who is a Junior at Cox High School, is a shining example of the quality of Virginia Beach Public Schools and his teachers at W.T. Cooke, Virginia Beach Middle, First Colonial High, and now Cox. We have two grown daughters, a grandson, and a granddaughter who have all called Virginia Beach home.

Fighting for Reproductive Rights
Make no mistake – reproductive rights are on the ballot in Virginia. My opponent is a “sure thing” when it comes to limiting these rights for Virginians based on religious beliefs and not science. She would support a complete ban on abortion.
I pledge to make no laws or put forward any votes that would limit any Virginian’s access to reproductive care.
I'll fight for Public Schools & Universal Lunch
I spent much of my journalism career covering education on the National, State, and Local levels as my beat. I wrote about the experiences of educators and students in public and private schools. I watched how the "No Child Left Behind" mandates forced teachers to teach to "a test" and not to their individual students - to have no flexibility in the classroom and left without time for real connection and teachable moments. The conservatives are again trying to tie the hands of our teachers and our librarians by limiting the tools they need to reach children - AKA book banning.
One bill, sponsored by my opponent would even force educators to report any behavior they see as gender non-conforming to parents. Let teachers teach and let students learn.
I'll fight for our Environment
In our coastal district, water is a big deal - our access to it, the ability to keep it clean, and the threat of sea level rise. I will introduce and vote for initiatives that reduce water pollution, protect wetlands and waterways, and promote sustainable water use.
I will work to further incentivize the purchase or use of greener transportation options.
I want to be a champion of sustainable agriculture including personal and commercial production and sale of marijuana and will fight the rolling back of marijuana decriminalization and help farmers enter the industry with programs and incentives. Let's treat them like we used to treat tobacco farmers – marijuana is medicine.
Fighting for ALL Virginians
My Republican incumbent opponent votes party lines 96 percent of the time and has supported bills that would hurt the LGBTQ+ community and introduced legislation based on her personal religious beliefs -- not representative of her constituents. She is fueled by special interests and out of touch with real Virginians. I want to win this seat and serve for the greater good of my district, not for my own personal status.
Cat Porterfield is the leader we need.
Real leadership for REAL Virginians – Women, Men, Children, People of Color, LGBTQ+. ALL Virginians! Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. We come in every color, shape, and belief system and NOT one of those things keeps us from being Virginians.
